Positive Gangs

Edward de Bono’s Message
The concept is to create ‘positive gangs’ of youngsters who would do positive things in the community and so get their sense of significance and achievement in this way.
What would these positive gangs do?
These suggestions should go beyond normal volunteering to help worthy causes.
So let me have your suggestions, now and over time, and we can put together a big catalogue of things that positive youth can do and contribute.

Form relationships with those who are disconnected from society-prison visits/those in youth offenders programmes for example ;
Connect with younger school children in areas where role models are absent and higher levels of crime..school visits ;
Govt. of India, through its premier organization called Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (Nehru Youth Centres organization) has formed about a quarter million youth clubs in as many villages. Purpose of forming a youth club is to elicit organized behavioral response from the members of the youth clubs. Thjis means that the members of youth clubs would function as a democratic body in the village, they would support every such voluntary action within the village that will be needed for the development of the village in terms of awareness generation, knowledge sharing, access making, or simply to do the physical activity when required.
How we do this ?
By running a village-to-village campaign to form youth clubs; then to train the office bearers of the ec of the newly formed youth clubs in the matters of “youth leadership”, Volunteerism, democratic functioning, method of sustaining a youth body etc.
Then by getting the youth clubs registered with the government that makes them legally eligible to get different projects froma the government, especially related to HRD;
Then we get them involved in certain programmes like trainings, skills developmen t, and sports activities.
Then we leave them to themselv es. They may grow to transform themselves into local Community Based organization; or they may perish to get rejuvenated by us once again after a while etc.
OUTCOME:
We have found that these youthe clubs have unwittingly become immensly useful in strengthening the fundamental (grassroot) democratic polity of the nation;
then they become a good tool of youth empowerment ; and to use the oft repeated jargon- they have become a wonderful social capital.
I am Director training for this organization.
